Senior Litigation Paralegal

Maltos Law Firm is seeking an experienced Senior Litigation Paralegal to work closely with our managing attorney on some of the firm’s most significant and complex personal injury matters.

This role offers the opportunity to work directly with the managing attorney on catastrophic injury, wrongful death, commercial vehicle and trucking, multi-party, and other high-exposure litigation. Rather than managing a high-volume docket, this position focuses on a smaller number of challenging matters where attention to detail, sound judgment, initiative, and strong organizational skills are especially important.

We are looking for someone who can confidently manage the day-to-day needs of complex litigation while working collaboratively with the attorney and broader legal team. The following qualities are particularly important to success in this role:

1. Independent File Management
The ideal candidate is comfortable taking ownership of a case from suit through trial preparation and managing the many moving pieces along the way. This includes staying on top of written discovery, motion practice, deadlines, case development, and trial preparation with appropriate direction from the attorney when needed. We value candidates who are confident in their abilities while also recognizing when collaboration or guidance is appropriate.

2. Proactive Approach
We value a paralegal who looks ahead and anticipates what a case may need rather than simply responding to assignments as they arise. This might include identifying an upcoming expert designation deadline well in advance, recognizing missing medical or treating records, or bringing a potential issue to the attorney’s attention along with possible solutions. Initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to anticipate the needs of a case are important qualities for this position.

3. Strong Writing and Professionalism
A significant portion of the role involves written work, including discovery responses, deposition summaries, mediation memoranda, chronologies, and professional correspondence. Strong written communication and attention to detail are essential, and finalists may be asked to provide a writing sample as part of the selection process.

Professionalism is equally important. This position interacts regularly with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, experts, vendors, and other professionals. We are looking for someone who communicates thoughtfully, handles confidential information with discretion, follows through on commitments, and represents the firm with professionalism and respect.

4. Leadership and Ability to Manage Competing Priorities
The Senior Litigation Paralegal will help coordinate legal assistants and case managers, as well as work with experts, vendors, clients, and other professionals involved in complex matters. Litigation can involve competing deadlines, challenging circumstances, and unexpected developments, so the ability to remain organized, communicate clearly, and address issues constructively is important.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate, through their prior experience, how they have handled challenging situations, communicated effectively with difficult parties, identified and escalated issues appropriately, and maintained strong client and team relationships during demanding periods.

Overall, we are seeking a highly capable, dependable, and collaborative senior paralegal who takes pride in their work, thinks ahead, communicates well, and is comfortable taking meaningful ownership of complex litigation matters while working closely with the managing attorney and the rest of the team.
